To Light A Flame looks like it's supposed to be the first chapter in a book. It wraps up well, with a balance of expectations and unanswered questions, but that's possibly the only thing it does right. The beginning is slow enough to cure insomnia, the center random and spotty, bouncing without purpose or frame of reference from moment to moment and place to place. It tries to swallow too much, and ends up splitting itself open and wallowing dead in the gutter.
